Face Tags

A new feature of Google's picture site is an app that scans pictures and recognises faces. It is pretty amazing. After about two minutes it had scanned all of the online pictures and sorted the faces that it was able to recognise into who it thought they were. I just had to put a name to the the faces. It took about five minutes to do.

Anyway, it will allow me to put e-mail addresses on the contacts. I haven't. I don't even think the average user can see the nametags. I would be interested in knowing what people think of nametagging - if your picture is in one of my albums chances are you've been tagged. Here is a link to Google's explanation of the feature.

Some New Galleries

I have travelled to Halifax for work and I now find myself with a lot of time on my hands so I am finally getting around to all of the photo and website work that I have been putting off for months. So, you will see here a couple of new things. First, I've posted some pictures that I've taken while here in Halifax. I have also uploaded some subject based galleries that will be updated from time to time.

Until recently most of the posts here have been events based, that is the subject of the pictures has been time based (like Christmas or a holiday). I have uploaded some favourite pictures to galleries which all have similar subjects or settings such as sunsets, or nightscapes. I will post more as I organise and sort through all of my pictures. There are permanent links to these galleries to the right. Please feel free to comment on the pictures.

Christmas 2008

Finally, and after many requests we have uploaded some pictures taken during the 2008 holiday season. It was snowy, fun and full of family and visitors.

Travel Pictures

Here are some pictures from some of the adventures Chris had while he was on leave this summer.

The whole family was able to get together in Switzerland during August. Chris was also able to visit Egypt, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Summer in Switzerland

Chris, Christa and Heidi spent a couple of weeks touring around Switzerland. We visited with all sorts of family and friends in the area and were able to see parts of Lichthenstein, Austria and Germany as well.

Winter 2008

Another gallery has been added c/o Google. You can access the 21 pictures taken in the first two months of 2008 here. Please feel free to contribute by adding comments to the gallery. You can also purchase prints using the Google Gallery (we don't get any share of the money). We'd be interested to know if people use any of the services of the site.

Christmas 2007

Here is a new photo gallery with 18 or so images from our Christmas and holidays this year. Most of the pictures were taken in Victoria from about mid-December to New Year's Eve 2007. There are naturally a lot of pictures of Heidi.

We are trying a web gallery system that integrates with Picasa - the program we've been using. Let us know what you think.
